Reach Out to Dropouts Walk
Participating Reach Out to Dropouts Regions
Join a participating district or start a Reach Out to Dropouts Walk in your community!
The Reach Out to Dropouts Walk has brought back thousands of students in six years with the help of over 20,600 volunteers and the continuing work of Dropout Prevention Specialists!
After the first week of school, addresses of students who have not reported back are verified. Teams of volunteers then go door-to-door encouraging students to return. School districts can arrange to enroll returning students on the spot. The program has garnered so much attention that officials from several other cities and states have called to get advice on how to do the walk.
Goals:
- Increase graduation rates in the community
- Increase awareness about completing high school
- Initiate community partnerships and resources to address the dropout problem
- Develop alternative education strategies; such as mentoring efforts, single parent and truancy programs
